Clare Mcilwaine

Clare started her career in dentistry as a dental nurse in 1996. After 8 years in the dental nursing profession, she went on to study dental hygiene and therapy at Kings College London, qualifying in 2008. Following on from this Clare gained experience treating patients in General NHS, private practice, and those with special needs in the Community Dental Service. She also developed a keen interest in education after initially taking up a supervision role in dental undergraduate training. This then subsequently led to a career in dental academia and the completion of her Masters in Clinical Education in 2017.

Clare currently works in higher education, leading on dental curriculum development. She was appointed a GDC Education Associate role in 2019 and holds a Chief External Examiner position for the National Exam Board for Dental Nurses
